Turkey-born, Germany-based Güner Künier started making music solo in the early 2020s. She named her second album (slated for March 21, 2025) Yaramaz, a Turkish word meaning something like “good-for-nothing.” Freeing oneself from societal and familial expectations is one of the central themes of the record, with Künier telling her coming-of-age story through her own brand of punk.
If post-punk and minimal/synth-wave are the main musical reference points on Yaramaz, the listeners will delight in the album’s expansive shoegaze sounds, its Velvet Underground noir-vibe, and its touch of krautrock.
